Excellent Service Making a Difference to the Customer
The Nelson Centre of Service Excellence has had an excellent start! In what might be considered a first, Richmond and Nelson's two business-promotions groups joined forces in a bid to raise the level of customer service across the region. Richmond Unlimited Manager Pamela Williams and Uniquely Nelson Coordinator Rowena Richards distributed questionnaires outside Stoke New World in early May to measure the current levels of customer service people are experiencing in Nelson and Tasman."We wanted as many people as possible to share their feedback,” says Ms Williams. “It is very important local people have their say so we a have a good starting point and a way of identifying and measuring improvements we can make."She said the information gleaned from the Nelson Centre of Service Excellence questionnaire would be invaluable and would also complement Richmond Unlimited’s customer service project, which will see all businesses in Richmond's CBD mystery shopped. Ms Williams says the project has had to be pared back to just one mystery shop this year because of budget restrictions. “The mystery shops will take place over the next few months, so keep those smiles on.”Project Manager for the Nelson Centre of Service Excellence, Pip Jamieson, said she had been very pleased with the response to the questionnaire with a good number of visitors filling out the questionnaire over Easter weekend.“It's also great to see Richmond and Nelson working together on this and the support from Pamela and Rowena has been fantastic.”“The Nelson Centre of Service Excellence aims to raise standards of delivery across customer service related industries. This involves improving management and service skills, recognition of good service, and raising awareness of the importance of excellent service delivery” says John Meeuwsen, CEO Retail Institute.Tony Gray, CEO, NMIT adds “For businesses it means they can access training to meet needs without all the jargon and needing to understand who delivers what. Training Advisor Robbie Dyer is available to meet with businesses and ensure staff and owners have ready access to the most appropriate training”.It also means their staff who are providing excellent service may be recognized through a range of regional promotion activities.Project Manager Pip Jamieson is keen to meet with businesses in Nelson and Richmond to further discuss how they might like to be involved.
